Consular Certificate of your embassy (20,- € at the German Embassy, to be paid in cash in Rial) or LOI (Letter of Invitation, costs unknown)

Costs, validity and processing time:

105, - $ with Consular Certificate (20 €), you get a 30 day visa, with exact dates for beginning and end, Express means 5 business days or one week processing time; with LOI the visa is supposedly cheaper, but price for LOI unknown; if you take Normal instead of Express, you pay less and have to wait 2 weeks

Procedure:

Be as early as possible at your embassy to get the Consular Certificate. The German Embassy wrote both Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan on the same paper for the price of one, but we are not quite sue, if you need this for Turkmenistan . This in your pocket, you go to the Uzbek consulate and ring at the gate. If you are asked to wait, you stand outside and wait ... this may take a while. When an agency guy was let in, we just sneaked in behind him and continued waiting on the steps to the office window. When it's your turn, you give them the papers (but you keep the original passport, because in Iran you have to carry it everywhere you go). They will ask you to come back one week later (Express). This is when you give them the money in cash in Dollars and get your visa glewed into your passport.

Extension:

Possible at the airport in the responsible office. It is best to find someone from the airport staff, who speaks English, and to ask them for directions and if they could come with you to translate, since no one in this office speaks English. Like everywhere in Uzbekistan don't forget to bring your passport and they also check here your registrations, which should be without gaps and only from certified hotels! You should be ready to explain gaps to the officers satisfaction (travelling by bike and sleeping in a tent etc.). An extension is not granted to everyone. You need a tangible reason such as a flight after the end of your visa (you must proof this by showing your ticket or reservation slip) and then the boss there can give you one week for $ 40. In such a case inquire as early as possible. The actual extension you only get on the day on which your old visa ends, after you have paid the money to the Trastbank (logo: blue dolphin), which you find right after crossing the bridge away from the airport on the right side in the building of the stock market.
